Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, the 2006 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses has a winsome nose of cherry tomatoes, freshly picked strawberry and a touch of gravel, perhaps a little more austere than I was expecting. That theme continues through on to the palate that is nicely structured, quite masculine, easy and nonchalant in style. There is just a hint of leafiness that emerges towards the finish that finally deigns the imbiber with a modicum of elegance. Perhaps this is not quite as long-term as other recent vintages, since it does not quite deliver the requisite substance, but it is still well crafted. Give it another year before reaching for the corkscrew. Tasted November 2015.
