here is a single barrel here of 2005 Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, a wine offering intense aromas and flavors of black raspberry, almond extract, flowers and charred meats. One senses a wealth of fine tannins in the mouth and yet the wine's texture is silken. The palate staining finish here is indescribably deep, with an almost bitter severity of spice, mineral, floral, charred meat and black fruit concentration. It lacks the immediate sex appeal of this year's Clos St.-Jacques but is, if anything, yet more concentrated, and certainly deserves to be set aside until it is at least 15 years old.
